On October 29, according to a report by the Finnish UPM Group, industrial-scale production has been achieved in one of the three main process operations at its new biorefinery in Leuna, Germany.
In its report, UPM stated, "In the first 'core' process, namely the hydrothermal decomposition of wood into sugars and lignin, we have achieved industrial-scale stability and production levels."
The company stated that production and sales of its first commercial products, industrial sugars, and lignin products are expected to begin by the end of the year.
According to the latest news in the group's third-quarter interim report, ethylene glycol production and sales will be on track in the first half of 2026.
