At the 2025 Tire Tech Expo in Hannover, Michelin unveiled a breakthrough nylon 66 tire cord technology incorporating graphene oxide nanoparticles. Laboratory tests demonstrate:
18% reduction in rolling resistance versus standard nylon 66 cords (measured at 80km/h under ISO 28580)
40% improvement in heat dissipation, allowing sustained high-speed performance in EV applications
3D zig-zag weaving pattern that increases cord-to-rubber adhesion by 27% (ASTM D4393 test)
The cords are currently being trialed in the upcoming Pilot Sport 5 EV tire series, with mass production expected Q2 2026. Michelin's R&D director Dr. Sophie Laurent noted: 'This solves the historic trade-off between energy efficiency and durability in synthetic reinforcement materials.
