Aramid 1414 Filament Aramid 1414, chemically known as poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide), is a high-performance synthetic fiber composed of rigid, long polymer chains. Visually, it typically appears as golden-yellow threads with a metallic luster. The "1414" in its name originates from the chemical structure where two amide bonds (-NH-CO-) are connected to the benzene ring at carbon atoms 1 and 4, respectively. This symmetrical, rigid, linear structure is the fundamental source of its superior performance.

    1. High Strength and High Modulus: Its strength can reach 5-6 times that of high-quality steel, while its weight is only about one-fifth that of steel; its modulus (resistance to deformation) can reach 2-3 times that of steel. This allows for significant weight reduction in products using it, while maintaining high strength, toughness, and dimensional stability, and is not easily deformed.

    2. Excellent Heat Resistance and Flame Retardancy: Aramid 1414 has good thermal stability, maintaining stable performance over a long period within a temperature range of -196℃ to 204℃, and can withstand even higher temperatures for short periods. At temperatures around 560℃, it does not melt but undergoes carbonization and decomposition. With a limiting oxygen index greater than 28, it is classified as a flame-retardant fiber. When exposed to flame, it will not burn or drip; the fabric surface will rapidly carbonize and expand, forming a heat insulation barrier. This provides crucial protection for personnel and equipment working in high-temperature or fire-prone environments.

    3. Excellent chemical stability and durability: It exhibits good resistance to most organic solvents and salts, is not easily hydrolyzed, and possesses excellent insulation and anti-aging properties. This means that products made from it have a long lifespan, are corrosion-resistant, durable, and have low maintenance costs.

    4. Good mechanical properties: It also possesses excellent cut resistance, abrasion resistance, and fatigue resistance.

    Applications of Aramid 1414 Filament

    1. Safety and protection: Due to its high strength, high modulus, and excellent toughness, aramid 1414 can rapidly absorb and disperse the impact energy of bullets, thus preventing blunt force trauma. It is used to make soft bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, stab-proof vests, bomb disposal suits, etc. It is also used in bulletproof vehicle bodies, composite armor, etc. Heat-resistant and fire-resistant equipment: Aramid 1414 has excellent heat resistance, does not melt or decompose at high temperatures, and can be used to make firefighting suits, furnace work clothes, welding work clothes, etc. For example, the outer fabric of fire-fighting protective clothing may be made of aramid 1414 filaments interwoven with other aramid materials. Cut-resistant gloves: Utilizing its high strength and cut resistance, it is commonly used in industrial cut-resistant gloves, such as in the automotive and glass industries.

    2. Aerospace and transportation industry: Aerospace vehicle components: Used to manufacture structural materials, radomes, doors, interior panels, seats, etc., for aircraft, rockets, and satellites. Components made from its resin-based composite materials can significantly reduce weight; for example, Boeing aircraft reduced weight by about 30% after using this material. High-performance tire cord: Due to its high strength, good heat resistance, excellent rubber adhesion, and low specific gravity, aramid 1414 is an ideal high-grade tire cord material. It can reduce tire weight, lower rolling resistance, improve high-speed performance, and enhance puncture resistance, making it suitable for aircraft tires, high-end car tires, and other applications, and is used by some world-renowned tire brands. Friction and sealing materials: It can be used to manufacture brake pads, clutch plates, gaskets, packing, etc., and is an excellent alternative to asbestos. Hose and transmission belt reinforcement: Short-cut aramid 1414 fibers can be used to reinforce hydraulic hoses, timing belts, conveyor belts, and other rubber products.

    3. High-strength ropes and cables for industrial and civil engineering: Used to manufacture ship ropes, deep-sea mooring lines, submarine cables, and optical cable reinforcement components, meeting the requirements of high strength, low weight, and corrosion resistance. Civil engineering reinforcement: Utilizing its lightweight, high strength, high modulus of elasticity, corrosion resistance, non-conductivity, and impact resistance, aramid 1414 fabrics or fiber cloths can be used for the repair, reinforcement, and strengthening of concrete structures such as bridges, tunnels, columns, subways, and chimneys. High-temperature filter materials: It can be used as a filter material in high-temperature filter bags, high-temperature gas filter bags, and other products.

    4. Sports and Leisure Equipment & Other High-end Sports Equipment: Used in the manufacture of racing boats, kayaks, tennis rackets, golf clubs, skis, hiking boots, etc., providing an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio and enhancing athletic performance. Inflatable Products and Containers: Can be used as a reinforcing material in inflatable life rafts, inflatable pontoon bridges, corrosion-resistant containers, light oil tanks, and large-diameter crude oil discharge pipes.

    5. Other Forms and Applications Aramid 1414 filaments can also be processed into other forms, expanding their applications: Untwisted Fabric: Made from parallel bundles of aramid 1414 filaments, combining the high strength of filaments with the characteristics of an untwisted structure, it can be used in bulletproof vests, high-temperature filtration, automotive parts, protective clothing, building reinforcement materials, and sporting goods, etc. Spunlace Nonwoven Fabric: Para-aramid spunlace nonwoven fabric can be used as a reinforcing material for rubber, resin, concrete, etc., and is applied in aerospace, defense, automotive industry, and sporting goods. Pulp: Aramid 1414 pulp is a flocculent material with surface fibrillation treatment. It has a large surface area and can combine well with other substances. It is used as a reinforcing fiber in rubber products such as friction materials (such as brake pads) and sealing materials (such as asbestos-free gaskets).
